Start date revealed for Formula One 2020 Season

An agreement between the FIA and the current teams on the grid has confirmed that the season will go-ahead with a revised calendar starting in Austria on July the 5th.

Eight rounds have so far been revealed with more to be confirmed soon with back-to-back races at both Austria and Silverstone.


First eight rounds of the 2020 Season

  • Austrian GP, Red Bull Ring, 3rd - 5th July

  • Austrian GP, Red Bull Ring, 10th - 12th July

  • Hungarian GP, Hungaroring, 17th -19th July

  • British GP, Silverstone, 31st July - 2nd August

  • British GP, Silverstone, 7th - 9th August

  • Spanish GP, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, 14th - 16th August

  • Belgian GP, Spa-Francorchamps, 28th - 30th August

  • Italian GP, Monza, 4th - 6th September

All the races will be supported by the feeder series of Formula 2 and Formula 3.


The second race in Austria, from 10th to the 12th of July, will be will be called the Steiermark GP - the German name for Styria, the region the Red Bull Ring is situated. The second race in Silverstone will be called the 70th Anniversary GP, in honour of the circuit hosting the championship's inaugural event in 1950.


There are hopes that the calendar could expand to 15 to 18 races before the season ends in December. They hope to publish more races in the fore-coming weeks.


China, Vietnam and Japan are good contenders because of the low cases could be held in October with races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are expected to held around December time.


Formula One currently expects the first races to be closed events.


Chase Carey, Chairman and CEO of Formula 1, said: “In the past weeks we have been working tirelessly with all our partners, the FIA and the teams to create a revised opening 2020 calendar allowing us to restart racing in the safest possible way."


A new race format, with the idea of proposed reserved grids, being thought about but it is unlikely this will happen.
